Here at The Grown Up Edit we live in denim. It has always constituted for a huge portion of our wardrobe space but over recent months it seems to have taken over entirely. Now this is partly due to the bipolar weather that this summer has provided us with, but is also hugely thanks to this season’s reworked styles. Now we’re not saying that we’ve completely ditched our trusted black skinnies (our eternal love for Kate Moss would never allow for this) but with so many new styles on offer it’s a refreshing way to update our go to every day staples.
With so many shapes to choose from it can seem a little overwhelming but find one that suits your style and you’ll have an instant update for those slightly less exciting cashmere sweaters and basic tees sitting in the back of your closet. For us the straight leg ‘mum jean’ is a firm favourite but we also love a cropped wide leg in a dark wash with a heel. At first it might feel a bit daunting to step out of your skinny jean comfort zone, but give it a go as the denim offerings on the high street at the moment are endless and can give your trusted basics a new lease of life. The general rule to be applied whether it’s a kick flare, wide leg, cigarette, turn up or girlfriend jean you opt for is keep it cropped. Anywhere from above the ankle to below mid calf to be precise. This keeps it looking fresh and modern and also has the added bonus of showing off your footwear of choice. What better excuse than to get that new pair of shoes you’ve had your eye on.
