STYLING YOUR BOOKSHELVES

STYLING YOUR BOOKSHELVES - The Grown Up Edit

My husband has a few addictions, my favourite being his collection of art photography books, thousands of them, well at least it looks like that. When I moved in with Laurie they were all arranged nicely by subject and completely functional. Unfortunately not so interesting on the eye. After a little persuasion I got started on adding  some style and fun to them. Here are a few tips to help you on your way.

Mix up the placement of your books, so that some are vertical and some are horizontal. With each pile, try and keep the height of the books roughly the same.
Mix up the colours of the books, all through the bookshelves.
Use some of the books as artwork, if they have an interesting cover. The book should be completely facing forward like a picture frame. You can lean it against anything as you wont see it.
Use personal pictures in-between to break up the books. We love family moments caught on camera.
Use decorative objects like an ornament or candle. We even placed a bunch of candles in a vase (easy storage). Also don’t worry about mixing vintage and modern ornaments.
Put your glassware on the shelves. We always struggled finding a home for our tall vases and my husband's iconic Mad Men whiskey tumblers, so I put them on there too.
Finally, sporadically add tealights on your shelves. In the evening they bring the shelves alive.
