WHAT'S IN MY MAKEUP BAG - The Grown Up Edit

I was inspired to put this blog together as I’m often asked what makeup I use on myself. With the exception of a special event, I keep my makeup minimal, natural-looking and it usually takes me less than 10 minutes to apply before heading out of the house. If I’m really honest, it can be on the train. I would roll my eyes at these girls before I started my 6am commute, now I get it, after all everyone feels better with a bit of slap on, especially at that time. I stick to the essentials in my makeup bag, with the odd seasonal update thrown in. All the time my main focus being to keep my skin glowing, cover my imperfections (dark eyes and lovely spots) and finally pull out my features, less being more, especially now I’m older.

Here’s what’s currently in my makeup bag for everyday use. I hope this inspires you to have a makeup spring clean and helps you pick your staple products.

WHAT'S IN MY MAKEUP BAG - The Grown Up Edit

SKIN

LAURA MERCIER Tinted Moisturiser SPF20 £34
First up after my skin care is Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser. Apply on the back of your hand and gently smooth over your face avoiding your eyebrows. This will leave your skin illuminated and glowing. Don’t worry if you're tinted moisturiser is a shade darker, this will add a little colour on your paler days.

GIORGIO ARMANI Precision Retouch £28
A radiance-enhancing concealer to wipe away the appearance of shadows, imperfections, and brighten your complexion. Apply with your finger gently patting it into the skin, under your eyes, around the sides of your nostrils and in between your eyebrows. MAC Transparant Finishing Powder £21.50
A silky, colourless finishing powder suitable for all skin tones that reduces shine. Apply with a Contouring Brush. Try not to over-powder. I often don’t use any, as your makeup settles in, a natural shine can look healthier and more youthful. Although, if you like a matt look, this is the perfect powder without looking too heavy on your skin.

EYES

SHU UEMURA Eyelash Curlers £20
These award–winning eyelash curlers enable foolproof false eyelash effect and deliver the perfect curl. I could’t live without them.

CLINIQUE Cream Shaper Eyeliner (Brown sugar) £15.50
I have always loved the morning after makeup on my eyes when I haven’t removed it properly, when it’s all melted in to your lashes and looks effortless and soft, while managing to really define your eyes. Not easy to achieve from fresh until I found the perfect eyeliner and colour. Soft Brown from Clinique has a gold pearl in it so it enables you to put plenty on while still managing to look soft and define your eyes, it’s fool-proof. Put it on your upper and lower lid and inside your inner eyelid. This will intensify any eye colour.

LANCÔME Hypnôse Mascara £24.50
This will turn up the volume of your lashes and Hypnôse will build up to 6 times more volume without clumping. Its PowerFull Brush helps deliver volume that you control. Glides through for lash separation and even application from base to tip.

SHADING, ILLUMINATING AND CHEEKS

TOM FORD Shade/Illuminator (01) £56
I usually only use the shader in the summer months, as I find that my face is paler than the rest of my body as I like to use strong sun protectors. The shader can be used to give the illusion of a tan, if you apply it in the same places where you would naturally tan a shade darker (hairline and chin). The highlighter illuminates your skin so you will look radiant and glowing. I apply it under my eyebrows and on the top of my cheek bones. If you need any help with this look at our Get The Glow Blog.

CLINIQUE Chubby Stick (robust rhubarb) £19
This cheek colour will add a healthy glow instantly, Oil-free but will keep your skin glowing. Apply to the apple of your cheeks.

LIPS

MAC Lipstick (velvet Teddy) £16.50

COSMETICS À LA CARTE Moisture Plus Lipstick £26
(Vintage)

A creamy and professional classic lipstick, enriched with nourishing Vitamin E. The perfect classic red with a pink tone. This is my go-to when I feel like I’m having a dull day, in my skin and on the inside, believe me it works. You instantly feel brighter. Also a great one to add if you suddenly have to rush out.

PAW PAW £5.99
It’s multi-purpose and can be used on lips, cuticles, hands, feet, elbows, red noses from colds and can even be used to control your eyebrows. I love to use a little as an eye cream around lunch time or on my lips when they feel dry in the day
