FRIDA KAHLO: MAKING HER SELF UP

Everything about Frida Kahlo was courageous. She was a revolutionary and a bold artist. As a child she survived polio, then in 1925, when she was 18, she was in a bus crash that left her with lifelong disability and pain. This exhibition presents an extraordinary collection of personal artefacts and clothing belonging to the iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Locked away for 50 years after her death. This collection has never before been exhibited outside Mexico. On until the 14th November at the V & A.

SHRIMPS FOR HABITAT

The Shrimps for Habitat collection launched this week and there are some really fun pieces in the collection. It's quite 'out there' like the fashion brand but great statement pieces to bring the finishing touch to a room. “Inspired by some of Shrimp’s most popular designs, think make-believe creatures, colour clashing faux fur and other-wordly patterns. A signature palette of Shrimps pink and red underpins the collection, punctuated with accents of gold and washes of blue.” We especially love this doodle print rug for a child's room or nursery.

NEVER LET ME GO

From the Booker Prize-winning author of The Remains of the Day and When We Were Orphans, comes an unforgettable mystery that is heartbreakingly tender and morally courageous about what it means to be human. A love story and examination of how we treat the vulnerable and different in our society. I slipped so easily into this book on holiday. Never Let Me Go was as engrossing as it was revealing.

SICARIO

With the release of Sicario 2: Solado about to be released (June 27th) I had to take this opportunity to say if you haven't watched the original Sicario then do it now! The film follows a principled FBI agent (Emily Blunt) who is enlisted by a government task force to bring down the leader of a powerful and brutal Mexican drug cartel. Sicario asks us questions of morality: How far is too far? To fight such monstrous evil, is it necessary to become evil ourselves?

Thanks to Direct Car Excess Insurance you will no longer have to do this. For less than £40 you can have a years cover with up to 60 days car hire.

MELANIE DE BIASIO - LILIES

Now I'm not a big Jazz fan but Melanie De Biasio's new album Lilies has me swooning over her voice. Melanie De Biasio is a Belgian vocalist who mixes jazz, blues, and soul. She’s an amazing singer and composer and you can see Nina Simone is a clear influence, as seen on the piano-driven title track. If you're reading this and don't know her work, please sample this amazing album.

COAL ROOMS PECKHAM

One of the latest additions to South East London's ever expanding culinary scene, COAL ROOMS PECKHAM is a fantastic new eatery. Housed in the former ticket office of Peckham Rye station it specialises in meat and fish cooked over a charcoal grill with a twist. Offering up a mean Sunday brunch and one of the best roasts we've tried in London, their unique menu is matched by the gorgeous interiors (be sure to check out the toilets whilst you're there).

A five ingredient show stopper dessert that takes five minutes to make and can be prepared ahead of time, it ticks every box for us! We made these last week as an Easter treat and they were absolutely delicious. They taste like the inside of a Lindt chocolate ball and are actually fairly healthy using nut milk (we used almond) and dark chocolate! For the full recipe click here.

MAX RICHER - BLUE NOTEBOOKS

The Blue Notebook was released in 2004. Excuse the delay in finding it. Max Richter, a British-based, German-born pianist and composer evokes an almost overwhelming atmosphere of nostalgia in this beautifully recorded instrumental album. Blending classical, electronic, and rock influences into a style he calls "post-classical," I guess this is the case of somethings are worth waiting for.

THE PICASSO MUSEUM - BARCELONA

Whilst in Barcelona this week I was able to visit the Museu Picasso which is a permanent collection highlighting the genius and talent of Pablo Picasso during his formative years and youth.
