There's something about this trend that I really struggled to get on board with at first. It stirs up memories of mum heading off to work in her extreme shoulder padded power suits and us kids delightfully comparing her earring choices to that of Pat Butcher. But fast-forward 30 years and when teamed with toned down basics the 80's statement earring is making somewhat of a comeback. At Fashion Week you would have struggled to find an Editor not working some form of shoulder skimming door knockers and here at TGUE we're loving the unexpected fashion edge they're bringing to our everyday looks.
Having worked the trend a few times myself and loved it, it has now become somewhat of a Pinterest obsession. Before starting TGUE I had always given Pinterest a bit of the cold shoulder, reserving it solely for interiors inspo not wanting to give in to another social media platform. We're now three months in and I'm completely hooked! Pinning has become a new addiction for me, be it home ideas, travel, beauty or fashion. Any time you're feeling in need of some inspiration or have a new fashion item you're struggling to wear this beautiful creative platform will be holding all the answers you need. It's often the first thing I'll reach for in the morning when in need of some outfit inspiration as I stare despairingly in to the depths of my wardrobe.
Anyways back to the subject of this post. Gold is the metal of choice when it comes to this trend but if you're more of a silver girl then there are some great options out there too. Keep shapes graphic to give a modern edge and above all keep the rest of the outfit laid-back and simple. A classic grey tee or white shirt with jeans works well and I also love to offset mine against a roll neck sweater for more of an impact. Having scoured the shops for the best around, below is my edit of what will be making my Christmas list and hopefully adorning my ears in the not so distant future.
